Jordan 1
1985 was a big year for Michael Jordan. That year, he won Rookie of the Year and played in the All-Star game. Nike also released the Air Jordan 1's. The Air Jordan 1, designed by Peter Moore, was the first shoe to be worn in the NBA featuring multiple colors. When Michael Jordan saw a sample of the the AJ1, he famously responded, "I'm not wearing that shoe. I'll look like a clown." Over time, however, the shoe began to grow on him.
Since the shoe initially broke the NBA's uniform rules due to its vibrant black and red color scheme, the Air Jordan 1's gained a great deal of publicity and sparked much interest. Jordan received a $5000 fine every time he wore the loud shoes during a game. However, Nike realized the benefit of this publicity and encouraged Jordan to keep wearing them with the fines paid by Nike.
