Jordan 6
Renowned Nike designer Tinker Hatfield kept Michael Jordan's black Porsche 930 Turbo in mind as he began designing the Nike Air Jordan VI in 1990. The slant-nosed car's rear spoiler, in particular, was the basis for the basketball shoe's rear pull-tab. The Air Jordan VI also subtly referenced Michael Jordan's basketball number, with a barely noticeable "23." The Carmine colorway best showcases this tribute.
Borrowing features from the Nike Air Jordan V, the design incorporated the visible air unit, icy midsoles and the lace-lock. The Air Jordan VI's the sock-like, booty liner molded comfortably to the foot, while the rubber tongue's finger holes gave the wearer the ability to pull the sock liner into a snug fit.
The Nike Air Jordan VI was such a beloved and popular shoe that even stand-up comic Jerry Seinfeld wore them during the second season of his hit show. Tinker Hatfield also designed a custom pair of Air Jordan VI knee-high leather boots worn by Batman in the 1992 film Batman Returns. Even Batman wanted to be like Mike.
